Luxembourg

3/20/99 updated

We visited Luxembourg in January 1999.

Luxembourg

Luxembourg is very mysterious. Middle aged buildings are standing on the hill surrounded by steep cliffs and the clock seems to stop there, but now it is prosperous in financial markets and such old buildings have most common investment banks' sign boards although it still looks a middle-aged old city. Luxembourg seems to be a fortress protected by an invisible strong finance power as well as it used to be a fortress in the nature hundreds years ago.

More information about Luxembourg

A nice view of Notre-Dame and old city from Bock Casemates. Old Luxembourg city (called 'Center') was built on the hill, which has steep cliffs.

Grand-Ducal Palace. A guard is walking.

We found a nice bakery, An der Bakes.

Le Lorraine is also a nice restaurant, that is one of most famous and luxury restaurants in Luxembourg.

Looking up Center from Rue st-Ulric.

The old city from Rahm Plateau, which is the other side of Center between the valley.

Ober Weis provides you nice chocolate and cakes.

Looking up Pont Adolphe from Grund, a trail in the valley. It will be a nice walk through Grund.

Pont Adolphe from Petrusse Casemates. This bridge was built in 19th century and is connecting Center and Railway Station district.

Central Molitor, where we stayed, is a nice, charming and typical European hotel. There are quite few large hotels in Luxembourg.
